I haven’t had the chance read to a book by Hope Conrad before but I’m glad that I did. I really loved this story.
Not only was it different but it was a great tale of an ex-con trying to make right with his life after being prison.
Thomas Street hasn’t had the best life. Starting out in an orphanage would find him being lead down a path that he’d sooner forget. After joining his friends, he left the orphanage, and thought his life was coming around.
Until his friend, Trevor, decided to get him in trouble. When Thomas landed in prison he found himself defending others and trying to keep himself safe. Seeing Katie everyday working in the lunch area had him fantasising about her.
They never spoke but he watched and protected her from other inmates. But when she left, Thomas was determined to know that she was safe.
Katie had always been poor, had bad taste in men, and was determined to make her life better. When she finds herself involved in a volatile relationship, she tries to excuse him of all his wrong doings. When she gets pregnant then kicks his butt to the curb she hopes that her life can get back to normal.
What she doesn’t expect is to meet up with Thomas again after two years. Feelings get stirred and soon enough those long awaited fantasies come to life. She sees more in Thomas and he tries to find every excuse to deny his own happiness.
A life travelled without love is a lonely road, but in the end it’s the decisions we make that can bring to life that happiness we crave.

The characters had wonderful chemistry and the emotion was felt in the way the story was told.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a great read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hard Time is the first book by this author that I have read however I look forward to reading Hard Case next.
Thomas Street is in prison for burglary when he sees Katie who dishes out the prison slop for the prisoners. Katie only has eyes for Street and feels his intense gaze.
This story continues two years later and the passion and chemistry between them is off the charts.
This is a sensual story and readers really ride the emotional roller coaster with the characters, so much so at times I felt like slapping a character or two. I always enjoy being able to easily connect with characters and Hope has made this achievable from the beginning.

Hard Time is the first book in the Hard as Nails Series. It is a quicker read and starts of the series on the right foot.
This book is about Street and Katie. Street is in prison and Katie is a worker at the prison. Despite the circumstances, these two are drawn to each other. Street is released from prison early thanks to his childhood friends, but he can’t let go of Katie. Although he hasn’t seen her for some time, he can’t stop thinking about her. Once they meet each other again on the outside, the find that the attraction is still there. Now, in order to be together, they must overcome a bunch of hurdles, including Katie’s sister and a crazed ex.

Hard Times was a great read. I loved the back story about Street and his friends that grew up having nothing and doing just about anything to make ends meet. Despite what was thrown at them, they were all good guys and decided that the best thing to do in life was to walk the straight and narrow. Even though Street ended up in Jail, his friends stood by him and took action to get him out as soon as they could. True brothers despite not being related by blood.

Hard Times is crafted so well, I couldn’t put it down until I was through with it. The story flows well and I was lost in the characters.

Hard Case is the second book in Hope Conrad’s Hard as Nails series. Rose has the perfect life. She is married to her high school sweetheart. She is a kindergarten teacher and life couldn’t be better. Until its not. Her husband starts acting strangely. He is staying out all ours, saying crazy things, and making threats. Rose is forced to filed for legal separation, get a restraining order, and quit her job. The final straw is when he breaks into her house and tries to kill her. Rose ends up taking his life in self-defense.

Rose is arrested for her “crime”. While in jail, Slate Rawlings, the hot and sexy hot-shot attorney takes her case. His record is almost undefeated, but he has an ulterior motive for wanting to represent Rose. He isn’t honest with her about how he got her case. Add to it his attraction to Rose and things get dicey. What will happen when Rose finds out the truth? Will Slate let his feelings for Rose interfere with his “job”?

Hard Case was a fun quick read. The story line flowed and had a good build up between Slate and Rose. The innocence portrayed in Rose’s character was believable and she was an easy character to like. Slate, although the came across as sleazy in the beginning, was easy to warm up to and became a great character in the end. Even though Hard Case was a shorter story, it was good and meaty and was a great read.

The Hard as Nails Series is fabulous.
Here we have Rose Carter, a kindergarten teacher, and a loving wife. She thinks her life with her high school sweetheart was just fine. But everything starts going wrong when her husband starts doing things out of the ordinary.
The chain of events that follow soon land her in jail for killing her own husband.
Did she ever think her life would come to this? It was either shoot or be shot.
Not only is she surprised when a defense attorney by the name of Slate Rawlings bails her out and also defends her, but when her suspiscions slowly morph into truth, she doesn’t know what to do.
Slate Rawlings finds himself in a love at first sight predicament and he’ll do anything for her.
Having to defend Rose isn’t the hard part, but keeping her safe from the bad guys is a battle he’s willing to fight.
Their chemistry soon develops into wanting from both sides. Although Rose didn’t want to start over, she soon finds herself wanting what Slate can give her, and for the first time, Slate needs to have her in his life.

The characters in this series fall hard for the woman they choose. I’m so glad that I read this book because not only is it a fresh style of writing that I love, but it’s always good to see a different range of scenarios.
I would definitely recommend Hope Conrad’s series to anyone looking for a great read.
Why the series? Because one book just won’t be enough.

This second book in the series is every bit as enjoyable as the first book.
Slate is an attorney who takes Rose’s case on pro bono. His belief in her is total and unwavering. Rose has nobody else so takes a chance on him to help her.
This is an entirely different theme than book 1 however the connections are there, smoothly intersecting. Once again this authors ability to build character descriptions is praiseworthy. The events throughout the story are either action packed, suspenseful or passionate.
An interesting and refreshing book that I recommend to other readers. It’s fast pace makes it hard to put down!
