Review: Collecting Scars by Tee Smith

Asha Harper doesn’t believe in happily ever afters. She left home at seventeen to start a new life for herself, to follow her dreams of becoming a nurse.

For more than ten years she has not needed anyone in her life, well at least that’s what she has told herself. Until she met the man with the gorgeous smile and piercing green eyes.

Xavier Arnold has had his own share of trouble in his life. He is still grieving for his younger sister Maddie, who has been missing without a trace for more than six years.

Will these two find love?

One night walking home from work, Asha is snatched off the street and held captive by a mysterious stranger. She is forced to re-evaluate her life. Not knowing if she will ever escape to see Xavier or her family again.

Collecting Scars is Tee Smith’s debut novel and was quite enjoyable although I admit that it took me awhile to really get into it. I liked the suspense and mystery that kept me on my toes and guessing every step of the way. It starts off slow but once it gets going you never want it to end and it is filled with twists and turns that you would never expect.

Asha is your typical sweet mousy girl who mainly keeps to herself and stays focused on her career in the medical field . She is one of the most nurturing characters I’ve had the pleasure of reading about and there isn’t a single person she wouldn’t try helping.

Xavier is an easy going, really passive gentleman who has had a lot happen in his past but despite all of that he is strong and takes everything in stride from day to day. Business owner/bartender, he is really sexy, protective and even a more dominant male figure when it comes to Asha.

Unlike most romances these days, the plot is more of a slow burn. Asha and Xavier’s romance builds slowly and steadily and you really learn about these characters as they learn about each other and each of their mysterious pasts. We learn more about Xavier’s sister and how she mysteriously disappeared six years earlier and then when Asha start’s having nightmares about a black van we get to see more of his protective side towards her. What happens next will turn both their worlds up side down, but will it tear them apart or bring them closer than ever? You will have to One-Click to find out! Tee Smith brings us a suspenseful, mysterious, entertaining read and I am interested to see what else the author has in store for us in the future.
