Reviews: The Pub Fiction Series by Gillian Jones

Pub Fiction Series

My Mind’s Eye (Book 1)

She is the epitome of the girl next door, but with a feistiness that makes my dick throb.
I’m drawn to her like no other. She stirs things in me I have no desire to feel, makes me long for things I shouldn’t.

This is my game. I choose the players. I never play for keeps.

I don’t believe in fate. I make my own destiny. I work hard and play harder. Luck is for pussies, karma for idiots. Me, I make shit happen.

Meeting her fucked up my plan. Threw me off my game.

I’m now face to face with my karma. Her name is Kat Rollins.

Ryker Eddison is the epitome of a player. You know the type: Mr. Get In and Get Out.

He’s all about the chase, wanting just one night. Everyone knows this, I know this. Still, I find myself craving him, my greedy body betraying what my heart and mind already know: he will only bring me pain.

He’s the guy that girls like me should avoid. I’m smart, I know better. But when I’m with him, I feel things I’ve never felt before. Things I never knew I wanted.

I can’t deny it … I like the chase. The high is explosive but I’m afraid if I give in, I may end up losing more than I can handle: my heart.

This is the first book by the author that I have read and I was absolutely captivated through the whole thing! I fell in love with Ryker and Kat as soon as they were both introduced and they both managed to burrow themselves into a special place in my heart. I loved the connection and the camaraderie between them and especially between Kat and her best friend Claire, who I believe is the heroine in book 3.

I won’t ruin the plot too much but Ryker is the ultimate playboy who only does one night stands, never any repeats. And Kat is in no way looking for a relationship. Kat and Ryker have an instant connection and the chemistry between them is undeniable. Could Kat be the one who forever changes the playboy’s ways?

I think Ryker just might be my new favorite book boyfriend! I loved this book and did not want it to end! I need more Ryker! I am really looking forward to reading the other books in this series.

One The Rocks (Book 2)

Four years ago, losing the love of my life almost destroyed me.
Years of being labeled and looked upon with disdain by everyone in my hometown almost wrecked me.
Four years ago, I became a mother and together we were enough… until I met him.
He wanted to rebuild my broken —I just didn’t know how to let him.
This is my story, of how one man’s love changed everything I thought I knew about life, love and myself.
Can Levi Eddison prove to be my restoration?

Everything in my world changed the day Braunwyn Daniels walked into my pub.
She was a woman of many contradictions. I recognized the happiness and sorrow each fighting its way to the surface from deep within.
I was drawn to her immediately.
Behind her long legs, chestnut brown hair and beautiful eyes lay a damaged soul.
I needed to change that —I just didn’t know how.
This is my story of how I met a broken girl and vowed to make her whole.
In the end, it turns out I knew nothing about true happiness until Braunwyn Daniels let me love her.

I absolutely loved this book!! I read it in one whole sitting and did not want to put it down for anything. I didn’t think it was possible but I loved this book way more than the first. Gillian Jones has unleashed one heck of a love story on us. The emotions that Gillian evokes are absolutely breathtaking and heart-wrenching all at the same time.

The prologue will have you tearing up from page 1. You get a sneak peek into Braunwyn Daniel’s tragic past. Braunwyn is a single mother who has gone through more than anybody should ever have to. She is one strong leading lady for everything that she has had to endure. She has been lost on the rocks and afraid to love again after losing the love of her life. You will absolutely fall in love with her adorable daughter Emme.

Levi only has time for one girl in his life, his pub. He is the dedicated owner of Pub Fiction and doesn’t have time for a girlfriend. He is more of the one-night stand type of guy. In desperate need of new hires for the pub, he conducts an interview that will forever change his life. He has an instant connection to Braunwyn Daniels. He sees the heartbreak and despair in her eyes and for some reason, he has the need to help her.

The sparks fly between these two and they quickly become the best of friends. He is absolutely amazing with Emme and you will not be able to stop yourself from falling in love with him. This is a story of loss, of survival, and most importantly, of love. Gillian Jones brings to light a very sensitive subject that affects millions of people every day. This book definitely touched my heart and is a new personal favorite of mine. This is a must read! I can’t wait for the next book by this author!

One Last Shot (Book 3)

My name is Claire Knox.
People say I’m the female version of a player: a boyslayer, if you’re fluent in urban dictionary speak.
I hate long term relationships. I’ll never commit to sticking around long enough to get attached to the notion of love, marriage, or the proverbial two point five kids.
No sirree Not this girl.
There’s no way I’ll let myself get hurt by losing someone I love ever again.
Been there, felt that.
Consider me damaged goods if you will, but I’m happy.
Or so I thought, until my path crossed his again…

4 stars

One Last Shot is the third book in the Pub Fiction series and is Claire’s and Matt’s story. Although it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend at least reading My Mind’s Eye first since that is where we first meet Claire and Matty. This is a second chance romance. I’ve loved every book in this series and I really wanted to love this one as well but to me it just fell a little short.

We first meet Claire in My Mind’s Eye, book one of the Pub Fiction series. To the outside world, Claire seems confident and sassy and carefree, but past tragedies have definitely left their mark on her. Ever since she has closed off her heart to love and not really let anyone get close until Matt Bishop enters her life. He charms his way past all her defenses and directly into her heart. Life is great until an event occurs that has her putting all her defenses back up and running for the hills.

I absolutely loved Matty and how much faith and love he had for Claire. You could tell he would do absolutely anything for her and I definitely fell in love with him. He is the whole package: sexy, smart, and loving. I hurt for him for everything that Claire put him through. On the other hand, I really wanted to love Claire after everything we learned about her in book 1 but she really made me mad at times! I understand that tragedy that changes a person but even when she knew her way of thinking and acting was wrong she was too stubborn to admit it and she kept pushing away all the people closest to her.

There is a 2-year gap between the events in book 1 and this newest book. The author doesn’t really explain much of what goes on in that two years other than the fact that Claire moved away and that she still loved Matty and couldn’t be with him. This frustrated me a little as a reader because I feel like she could have elaborated a little more about what both characters were thinking and feeling in that time apart. With that said, I still love Gillian Jone’s writing style and can’t wait to read more from her.
